Pictured are Stephen and Peter – brothers who are 7 and 8 years old. They come from a family of 8 children and their mother could not care for them. Josephine initially found the boys picking through public trash containers, hoping to find scraps of food to eat. Unable to feed Stephen and Peter, their mother tried to poison them.
Josephine took the boys to our partner, Good Samaritan Children’s Home to ask for help for the boys, in order to save their lives. Without hesitation and because Sweet Sleep had provided 120 beds to Good Samaritan, they agreed to care for these boys in full.
The bed is so much more than a place to sleep. The bed is a thing that has saved lives.Josephine
As we spoke, Stephen began to cry. Like any small child would, he buried his face his hands and leaned onto me. While he cried, I prayed for him. He cried over the memories of his past: cruelty, neglect, and abandonment by the one who should have loved him most.
As a mother of children his very age, it’s heartbreaking to think of everything these children have experienced; things that have left them scarred, broken, and afraid. I’m thankful that something as simple as a bed provided the avenue to safe respite for Stephen and Peter. And I’m thankful for our partners who love and provide for these children.
Good Samaritan Children’s Home cares for children who have been orphaned, abandoned, or who are being put in severe danger. The children are provided all basic needs, including medical care, counseling, food and lodging, and an education through high school. They are in need of 150 more beds for girls who are sleeping 8 to a papyrus mat on the concrete floor. You can provide a complete bunk bed for only $300. This Christmas, consider “Giving the Gift” of Sweet Sleep.
